Publication Ethics

Gerimis: Jurnal Madrasah Islamiyah emphasizes the importance of publication ethics. It is crucial to disseminate information on this matter to all parties involved, including authors, reviewers, editors, and the publisher, to prevent publication malpractice and copyright violations. This aligns with our commitment to promoting the correct academic conduct. In accordance with the Core Practices outlined by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), we highlight the responsibilities of authors, editors, reviewers, and publishers that must be followed (https://publicationethics.org/core-practices/).

Authors’ Responsibilities

Authors are required to submit original articles that have not been published elsewhere and are not currently under review or editing by other journals. Submitting a paper that is still being reviewed elsewhere is considered unethical. The research data must be presented accurately, avoiding falsification or fabrication. Proper citation practices must be followed to prevent plagiarism. Authors should ensure the final manuscript is reviewed before publication to avoid disputes. If authors wish to retract their paper, they must contact the journal’s editorial team before the publication date. Additionally, if human participants are involved in the research, authors must maintain confidentiality to avoid legal issues.

Reviewers’ Responsibilities

Reviewers play a crucial role in the acceptance or rejection of a paper. They must provide constructive feedback to the authors, indicating areas for improvement. Reviewers should objectively assess the paper without personal criticism, helping editors make informed decisions. If a reviewer feels they lack expertise in a particular area, they must inform the editor. Reviewers must also maintain confidentiality throughout the review process. Before accepting a review request, reviewers should declare any potential conflicts of interest to prevent bias in the publication process.

Editors’ Responsibilities

Editors have a broad range of duties. The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for the initial screening of papers to determine their suitability for the journal. The Section Editor, appointed by the Editor-in-Chief, selects appropriate reviewers. Editors must evaluate papers solely based on their content, not the authors' religion, race, gender, citizenship, or political views. Editors must ensure confidentiality throughout the editing process and prevent misuse of information. Verifying the originality of papers and keeping the author informed about the progress of the review is also the editor’s responsibility.

Publishers’ Responsibilities

The publisher’s role is to provide authors with a platform to publish their academic work while safeguarding their intellectual property rights. The publisher must facilitate the revision and retraction process effectively and ensure access to scientific dissemination.
